Close to pulling the trigger on a 2012 f350 SRW truck. From what ive read this is the start of the more reliable stock motors but wanted to get your thoughts.
What concerns should I have prior to purchasing the vehicle? Are there known issues I can check ??? Im going to try and have a mechanic check it prior but would still like to know if there are specifics to this engine or trans that should be noted. This way I can ensure the mechanic hits the common issues.
I have a 2012 truck with 135k miles. So far to date I've had to replace 2 EGT sensors and a Nox sensor on the exhaust which I know the EGT sensors can be an issue but won't leave you stranded like the original flash would. Also the quick connects for plumbing coolant and oil to the turbo are known to leak as well so have that checked. I would also check the fuel filters to ensure they're Motorcraft filters and not some aftermarket junk.
The best of that body style in terms of reliability is going to be the 15's and 16's.
They sold a ton of these things, plenty to choose from............
Another question I have is regarding the removal of the emissions crap. Being that im in KY we do not require any inspections soI dont see much issue with removing it. What about if I happen to cross state lines where they do. If I happend to get pulled over could they start snooping and get me for the delete ? Heck I guess that could even be possible in KY so im curious about everyones thoughts.

Technically it is "illegal" everywhere... But if the county where your vehicle is registered doesn't test, I wouldn't worry about it. The other issue you run into is service. Can pretty much count dealership work out after deleting. A lot of general repair shops around here have been sent letters by the epa too, urging them not to work on deleted vehicles. Pretty much everyone doing this stuff, deleting, tuning, etc, is hiding from the epa.
good luck, buying trucks is fun stuff, be sure to post up pics if/when you get one. For the delete, I took the route of keeping it looking like stock and keeping it quiet. Everyone has a choice and opinion on what they want. That is what makes it fun for me.

Funny you mentioned that as I was curious if that was evven possible. So how does that work. Did you just gut the original system then change the tune ??? Sorry im a rookie at this stuff.

Yes, from down pipe to tailpipe is easily removed, relatively, then you can insert either straight pipe or additional muffler etc. I took route of donaldson 40" muffler then added a FTE resonator in front of that just a month ago or so. Very happy with it now, it is only slightly louder than stock on the outside and no different in the cab. The over axle portion I elected to keep the same.
