2012 F350, 6.7l need advice

I'm considering driving an hour and a half to go look at a 2012 F350, 6.7l Crew Cab , Lariat 4x4 and dealer has on the lot. It has 155,000 miles and a build date of 08/02/2012. Is this something to stay away from? If not what are the main thing to look for or consider with this truck. There is a dealer in the same town I was considering have look it over as well.

Thanks

So far so good. Later build 2012 should have the revised turbo.

You want to really pay attention to the radiators, thru the drivers wheel well look at around the petcock for evidence of a leak.

Get an oasis from the service dept.

By now it is due for transfer case, both diffs, trans and coolant flushes. I wouldn't pay for that.

Get an extended warranty of course.

Hey I really appreciate the reply. That's all very helpful and encouraging.

Decided our 35ft travel trailer was just a bit much for our 2010 F150. So a F350 with a 6.7l should fit the bill nicely!

If you are in a salt crazy state, check door bottoms, around fenders, and cab corners.

Funny you bring that up. My F150 was a Texas truck. After one light winter in Indiana, I started seeing rust spots and the cab corner, on the bottom side of the painted rear bumper and around the backup sensors. Is there any way to prevent this?

The only way I know of is washing it well after every snow storm. We don't get as much snow in KS but I usually stay on top of it. I use a couple lawn sprinklers that i put under the truck that works pretty well.

Wash the undercarriage weekly and fluid film.

Spray the underside in the fall before it gets too cold.

The only way to really prevent salt destruction is to move to a state that has some common sense.

The washing and Fluid Film mentioned above is worth doing.

If the truck is clean and has been maintained, I would have no issues buying a higher mileage 2012 or newer 6.7. They are proving to be very good at going the distance.

I sold my 2011 at 145000 miles.

It had been a great truck
The problems I had were
Two exhaust sensors Not very expensive but they shut you down
Coolant leak on turbo fitting
Front bearings, can't grease must replace
Typical fluids. Tranny and coolant

The $64,000 question is how much are they asking?

Depending on Oasis and Carfax it might be a great truck.
You will know pretty quickly after looking at it and driving it.
Great idea to get a Ford dealership to also do an inspection on it.
Doesn't guarantee trouble free, but can't hurt.

I would think it would be hard to find and expensive to get an extended warranty on a truck with that many miles that is worth what it cost....

Best of luck and report back.
Pat
