There may be something on a previous post, and if there is someone direct me, but I had a couple questions regarding Cold Air Intakes
Currently my 2013, F250 has a 4 inch exhaust, tuner, Egr and DPF delete as well as an H&S Intercooler pipe, I was wondering how much a cold air intake would make a difference, as well as which one would be the best.
Specifically, I was also wondering what impact it would have the tone of the exhaust and black smoke. I already have more than I would like if I lay on the throttle, and don't want anymore. Thanks in advance.
IMHO a CAI is a bit of a misnomer when talking diesels. When the air is placed under pressure by the turbo it is heated up and then cooled through the intercooler. With that said it really about the volume of air that the turbo is able to pull through the filter. Less restrictions equal an easier pull of air and increased volume. My personal druthers are stock air box as I feel filtering the air is more important than allowing more flow. Particulate matter going through the turbo is my biggest concern.
With an open element w/o a box you will hear the turbo more and more engine sound.
This motor is pretty quite I find. I am running the nl stage 2 5" which is the biggest open filter on the market for our trucks and even with it the extra noise in minimal. I can just barely hear a little turbo whistle now is the only real difference in noise. Nothing like my old 04 6.0
