Many change the oil on 8,000km or 5,000 mile. Some change the original oil early, approx 3,250km or 2,000 mile. I didn't change the original oil til 8,000km or 5,000 mile. I believe the owners manual will tell you 12,000km or 7,500mi. You can also wait till the "Intelligent Oil Life Monitor" notifies you it is soon time to change oil.
First oil change at 3,500 miles then for the next ~100,000 miles oil change at 5k miles. I'm now at 134,000 miles and been changing at 6,500-7,000 miles which keeps me in the severe category.
I'm for the first change occurring before 5,000 miles. After that, follow the IOLM or before a long trip. I keep up with mine using trip B since the 2011 basic screen doesn't keep up with an "oil life" percentage, if any of them do. I was changing around every 5,500 mi the first few years but switched to full synthetic at 51,000 mi and have been following the computer since. It would have been easier to follow the computer sooner, I just couldn't do it. Mine will alert between 6,900 and 7,500 usually. My last change was at 7,600 mi.
