Many a cereal box has been sacrificed for gasket material. I'd try to maybe find something a little thicker. Tar paper might be just the ticket. Does carb/manifold have a spacer? Usually there's a fairly thick gasket with internal metal reinforcment between spacer and manifold. Then a standard thinner paper gasket between spacer and carburetor.
I'd use just one gasket, it's important there's no vacuum leaks. Don't go reefing the carb nuts down at a hundred yard tons either, they need to be tight but bring them down gradually in a criss-cross pattern. Don't want to break off an ear of the carb casting. Maybe you know all this already.
