Engine Whistle???

So about 10 Sec. into the vid you can hear the whistle im talking about, rebuilt the carb. Could it be the base gasket ? It only has one of those thin ones at the base.

Wow, that's a horrible vacuum leak. Make sure the spacer is on in the right orientation as well, there is a bump out on one side that has to match up with a spot on the manifold or there will be a leak.

I do have a spacer, think my issue is with the single thin gasket at the manifold, hopefully two of the thin gaskets will work.

Did it start when you put that air cleaner on? I know my buddy put one on his G-van and it whistled wicked. Probably not your problem but that made a pretty horrific hiss.

Have you tried spraying carb cleaner or penetrant around the carb, to see if noise stops temporarily.?

Figured it out.
i had this http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...4_188089_6635_ at the base, the whistle was coming from where the spacer was letting air in due to the gasket not covering up the whole spacer.
This is what i needed.

Usually the carb kits contain 2 different thin gaskets.
Good that the problem is solved.

I had this happen once, and I had to bump the idle set screw way up. I found out I hadn't blocked off the big vacuum port on the back of the carb!

My truck did that too..and it was through the carb. The more i gave her gas, the more she whistled, probably vacuum leak within the gasket.

Spraying carb cleaner around at idle should raise rpms when you hit the leak
