Ok this may sound like a dumb question but here goes. The 312 v8 I have has a aluminum carb spacer. The intake has four hole carb opening. Do I need to have a four hole gasket where the carb mates to the spacer? The other gasket that goes to the cab is a open gasket. I am running a holley 600 carb. If I dont use the spacer do I just run the open gasket?
Jerry,
Why are you going to remove the spacer? I was told by a couple of Y Blockers that a 1” pneumonic space helps both with power and carb boiling the fuel out of the of the bowl after shut down. As far as your gasket question if you have 4 holes in your manifold use 4 hole gaskets.
As an aside I was told to modify my “B” manifold to have two oblong holes (front to back) for better fuel equalization.
Not to be an a$$ but it is "phenolic" and the gasket should match what it mates up against. Is the spacer is an open plenum or 4-hole spacer, you said the manifold is a 4-hole, but if the spacer is an open style, the gasket would need to be open otherwise the gasket will unsupported and over time will "disappear" into your engine. In your application the spacer will align linkage, increase plenum size (albeit slightly) and possibly keep the throttle butterflies from getting stuck on the manifold. So run a 4-hole gasket if it is supported by both mating surfaces otherwise use an open gasket.
