I don't have a 56 but here is pics of my 53 before i disassembled it. It was all stock. You can see the lower shock mount towards the top of the pic pointing to the left.
I recently changed the whole wood bed and repainted the frame and changed by the way the leaf springs and shocks as well. I took some pics. Maybe they'll help. It's stock 1956.
I have one truck Im trying to keep a little closer to stock so Im using the posie super slide leaf springs. They are supposed to be a much smoother leaf spring than original and they drop the truck just 3" front and rear from factory. Im also going to use front and rear sway bars. The other modification is front and rear shock absorbers. I want them longer that stock and I want both ends to be eye mounts instead of stud/eye.
For a 3 inch tube you need F2 shock plates. There are some aftermarket plates but many are flat steel, not very stout IMO.

I think the F2 shock plates are for a leaf spring that is wider than 2", no? For stock size 56 F-100, I need a 2 1/8" Ubolt pattern and shock mount as far as I understand.
Is the original stock rear axel tube in a 56 Ford F-100 less than 3" in diameter? Im wondering if there is such a thing as a rear shock mount bracket that is designed for 2" wide leaf springs and 3" diameter axel tubes. Im assuming TBAA-5798-A will not fit a donar 3" axel tube.
