1956 stock rear leaf spring clamps

Thanks for your patience all. The rivets were broken on my stock spring clamps. There appears to have been only two from the factory, one near each end and "holds" the top three leaves ,(this includes the main). Should I use the quick clamp 2-piece style that bends over to tighten? Do they make replacements you rivet back on? Looking for responses from people who have replaced these clamps. It's not a resto and I'm not a purist, just want this done right and best. Thanks for your continued help with this project.

Hi

If I would have to replace the stock clamps I would just use some flat iron and fabricate a couple of clamps. Get some rivets and put them in place. Not that much work really.

But the aftermarket sheet metal fold once, would probably work alright.

I actually have some for the lighter duty leaf springs... Heck I have the hole spring with them attached if you want them. I was going to scrap them, throw a few bucks at me for my time and pay for shipping and they are yours.

They are off of my 56 and are a 6 leaf pack.

Thanks. Clinton, I have two for each spring pack. Mine are a 7-leaf pack. NumberDummy, I think your diagram shows 4 clamps, (2 short and 2 long). However, I haven't found anyone selling them. I think I 'll just try the two piece type along with the four originals I have. I don't have a press for those size rivets and that'll still be nearly as cheap as buying flat stock. I found out today about a local spring company, Tampa Springs. If they have some in my width, I'll price them and spread the word, if not, I'll let you know Clinton.

Good news. Went to Tampa Spring and they bent me up some new clips for 2.50 each, sold me some of the two piece bend on clips and re-riveted the broken ones back onto the spring. Total for parts and labor with tax was right at $32. Also, made some new friends there, as several of them are into old cars and liked the fact I was working on an old truck. No nagging shipping charges either! I shop the internet frequently, but there will never be a substitute for good person to person service/sales! It felt good to support a local business as well.
