Hi guys and girls,

I'm looking for some experiences with snow chains for my F-350.
I'm running the factory 20" rims, about to put a Carli 2.5" leveling kit in the truck and then the 37x13.50R20 tires on it that are sitting in my garage.

I was wondering if you had any recommendations for snow chains for the 37x13.50 R20 tires?

The owners manual states not to use chains with the 20" wheels and also states that the ultra slim class S chains are required. I'm sure with the lift/levelling kit I'll be fine as far as clearance front and back is concerned, but would much appreciate the input on the type/.... of chains y'all are using that are more experienced with chains. It's my first pair of chains I'm buying...

I'll assume you're talking a newish truck when mentioning 20"s.

With a 2.5" levelling kit and 37"s? I'd be carefully checking clearances on the front lock to lock before considering wrapping them with chains.

No help with brand of chains for 20"s here. Sorry. I have a set for 265/75/16s but I've honestly owned them for so long I can't recall the brand.

 

With the leveling kit, make sure you install the caster correction shims, otherwise you will eat up those tires fast. Also, Chains aren't legal in most states, I wouldn't mess with them unless you are planning a trip to Alaska.

 

I got various chains from tirechains dot com; no issues with any of them. Also got emergency strap on chains from them; have used them a number of times.

 

I just checked and almost all states even Hawaii,but Florida has no chain law, say basically as conditions warrant they are allowed and I can testify that some highways and interstates out west will shut you down if you don't have them and are towing.

I have 2 sets, heavy duty reinforced(cleats or cross bars) for the rear and plain heavy duty for the front. Saved me a lot of pain one day coming across Siskin Summitout of California. Didn't matter I had 4 wheel drive and snow tires. Also had to put drag chains on my travel trailer.

I personally don't like cables but if it's tight clearancei'll use them. I have on cars.

 

Squisher has good advice on worrying about lock to lock contact. This is a pic of my 2012 F350 with a Carli leveling kit and 37x13.50x20 Toyo RTs on factory 20 inch wheels. It is "flexed" going through a ditch in this pic, but you can see where it rubs on the radius arm.

Op you can build your own fairly easy. Or try and track down some chains used for a big rig. I took an old pair off a truck. I used a pair of cut cutters to shorten them. I had to move a couple of cross chains using a chain tool. I think I went with one link on the inside and two on the outside. I wouldn't advise on putting them on the front wheels just rear. My chains pretty much sat never been used on my truck. I built them when I was working up on the mountain before the winter sat in. I guess by making these chains I made the snow gods happy and they never punished me to put them on.
