Whenever I take off from a stop or slow to a stop, there's a clunk in the drivetrain. It feels like a bit of play before the drivetrain engages and when it releases...torque converter maybe? Taking to the tranny shop soon...any ideas?
nine out of ten times the slip joint on the drive shaft just needs lubed. Ford has a special grease or I've used the blue marine grease with good results.
Apply parking brake. Put in Neutral. Climb under truck and twist driveshaft back and forth, look for slop. It should be evident if something is shot. The rear end will have some play that is normal
Nice...much appreciate the feedback. Everything shifts fine and there are no other problems at driving speeds...that'd tickle my pickle if it ends up being just some grease.

I second the slip joint grease. Was happening in my 2012 felt like some one was rear ending my truck when I stopped and a lag in the driveline on take off. Greased it up and never happened again.
Thanks for wrapping this up. I thought it would be the slip joint as well but it's always nice when the issue is confirmed, so thanks. Glad it worked out.

How much would you consider normal? I'm asking because my 2016 has this same clunk and I did like you said, put it in neutral and got under the truck. I can "turn" the driveshaft back and fourth a good half inch or so....
Thanks for all of the replies and advice. Not sure how I wasn't aware of all of these replies, must have stayed inactive long enough to stop getting the emails. Anyways, I believe I will be setting up an appointment with the dealer soon, it's bothering me enough now that I want it fixed, especially before I delete the truck. I'm just hoping there's none of this, "well we don't see anything wrong with it" garbage. I'll update once I have the appointment.
UPDATE: I went to the dealership and had the truck "checked out" for this concern. Although the service was friendly and fast, nothing was really accomplished past what I expected. They came back and said that everything "checked out" and that it was just characteristic of these trucks. When I explained that I had a close friend with a 2015 F250 with the same suspension, etc. and his did not have the odd amount of slop or noises, they just scratched their heads, then proceeded to remind me that it all checked out. Not sure what they checked out since the truck never made it on a lift but it is documented that I brought the concern to their attention so for now I will hold off on deleting in case it gets worse...
As far as greasing the slip yoke, I have been greasing the yoke avery 6 months for the past 7 years.
This week I had one of the bolts on the straps that hold the U-joint to the rear axle yoke break off.
Fortunately I was only doing 20 mph on a residential street when the truck spit the rear driveshaft out.
I was able to find the drive shaft and it did not damage truck or bend the shaft (Built Ford Tough!)
These bolts do wear out, the replacement cost is $ 6.00
Spicer recommends replacing every time they are removed, I would say replace them every year or two.
