Shift lever pin

Hi Folks,

I need to verify a part for my 1971 F250 C/S 360cid 2wd automatic transmission.

I'm overhauling the steering column. The steering column is not original. It is a difference color from the interior of the truck.

In disassembled the steering column and I also ordered new parts from a mail order house in Kansas; and found that the old shift level pin does not match what was sent. Attached is a photo of the parts.

Note how the old part is a roll pin and the new part is has a steel spring retainer that bites into the aluminium shift collar when you push it through the shift lever.

So, here is the question? Has anyone seen this new style before?

The old pin is still good and I'm inclined to use it except that the hole in the aluminum shift housing is somewhat loose and egg shaped from accumulated wear.

So if there are any suggestions on how to fix the wear problem, I would be very receptive to suggestions.

I am curious as to where you got that brass looking pin. I bought a shift collar and its missing the pin and it looks like yours is the right type. I can't find that pin by itself anywhere.

I bought this and the top is 5/16 and the bottom is 1/4

I kept the old roll-pin. It is a 3/16 diameter.

On my steering column, the roll-pin is a press fit into the lever and a slip fit into the housing.

The holes in the housing were worn out so I drilled them out and pressed in some brass bushings.

I just caught the D5TZ7228B part number on the box you posted. That's for a 3 on the tree not A/T. Ford originally listed that part number included in the box a 357479-s15 3/16" pin and a C8AZ7D439A 1/4" pin. Below is a Evilbay pic of the C8AZ7D439A.
