1966 Ford F100 - 6 cylinder Manual

Would anyone have a complete answer to the following? My column shifter has become loose over the years as the pin shift lever and shift collar hole has worn out making the shift arm loose. I have purchased the following items to make a repair:

1. New shift collar
2. New shift insulator
3. New Pin Shift Lever

Photo 1 is the current worn out collar, shift insulator, and pin.
Photo 2 and 3 are the replacement parts purchased.

Will I need any of the other sterring column components in addition to these three to make the shifter like new again?

Thank you in advance.

When you removed the shift lever, did you find a roll pin there? If so, it's not original...look at 7B125 & 7208 in the pic.

Something else I see...is the rubber insulator that you bought...it's way too long.

Thanks but every website has the exact same insulator offered for a 66 column shift: Ford - Ford - Ford Pickup Truck Column Gear Shift Lever Insulator - Manual Transmission | 01A-7246-B - Macs Auto Parts

To answer your question, I have not removed the shifter yet as I would like an expert to confirm these are the ONLY 3 parts needed to make the repair like new.

I don't care what the repro parts sellers claim, 01A-7246-B is 2.04" long and was introduced in 1940. It's been repro'd because it was used thru the early 1960's in cars, 1940/60 trucks.

Look at your original, it's 1.00" long: B8S-7246-A .. So 01A will have to "cut to fit."

I owned a '65 F100 for 44 years, replaced these same parts in 1981, except I used the correct insulator.

Here's a pic of 01A from the 1949/59 car parts catalog, notice that the shift lever is a different shape than your original.

There's more than 3 parts because there's no roll pin used with the 3 M/T collar.

I posted the pic again (below), so you don't have to scroll up. Notice the A/T shift lever uses a roll pin.

The 3 M/T shift lever uses (2) trunnions with a spring in between.

2) C0AA-7B125-A .. Trunnion / Obsolete

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 6 = 800-476-9653.

OBSOLETE RELIABLE PARTS in Nashville GA has 19 = 229-686-5101.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 20 = 800-543-4959.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1) 01A-7208 .. 3 M/T Gear Shift Lever Spring / Obsolete

OBSOLETE RELIABLE PARTS has 45.

GREEN SALES CO. has 783.

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS has 2,787.
----------------------------------------------------
1) B8S-7246-A .. Gear Shift Lever Insulator - 3/4" O.D. x 1.00" long / Obsolete

KLIMESH MOTOR SALES in Calmar IA has 1 = 563-562-3241.

OBSOLETE RELIABLE PARTS has 2.

MUSTANG'S ETC. in Van Nuys CA has 3 = 818-787-7634.
----------------------------------------------------------------
1) D5TZ-7228-B (replaced CODZ-7228-B) .. 3 M/T Shift Collar / Obsolete ~ Available NOS

1960/65 Falcon/Comet; 1961/77 F100/250; 1962/65 Fairlane; 1966/77 Bronco.

I assume you bought this correct 3 M/T shift collar, and can use the 01A-7246-B insulator.

The other parts may have been reproduced.

Thank you for the detailed parts lists with vendors. I will order the parts from them.

Just to be safe, the shift collar, insulator, and (2) trunnions with a spring in between are the only parts needed to solve a shift arm that is loose and has worn the shift collar hole out?

Most likely, I replaced the same parts in 1981 on my '65 F100 due to the same problem.
You may find that when you take the column apart, that the upper bearing (C3DZ-3517-A) is shot.

It's still available from Ford, the repro parts sellers also have it.

Shown as 3517 in pic.

I may as well get the shift lever as well. The boring in it is likely worn out as well. Exploded view diagram shows part 7213. Does anyone know where to get that?

7213 is just the ****, 7210 is the shift lever with the ****.

The thing is, Ford replaced the original 1965/66 3 M/T painted shift lever with the 1971 F100/250 3 M/T chrome shift lever (D1TZ-7210-C).

Then replaced the 1971 lever with the 1973/77 chrome shift lever (D3TZ-7210-B).

Both look as out of place as a snarky teenager at a cotillion!

I've searched several times in the past, no one has any of the NOS originals.

Thank you again. Can the chrome not be painted to look original? If you have a link to the chrome part, I will order and paint it as I have to paint the collar anyway.

The **** is a different shape as is the lever...see 1973 pic below.

The trunnions and the spring are the same, the insulator is B8S-7246-A

No one has the 1971 lever (D1TZ-7210-C), only one source has the 1973 replacement:

D3TZ-7210-B (replaced D1TZ-7210-C) .. 3 M/T Shift Lever / Obsolete

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 1 = 800-476-9653.

IMO, I'd use the original lever....as long as the hole is not wallowed out too badly.

B8S-7335-A / Obsolete

1965/72 truck catalog: Transmission Gear Shift Lever Impact Sleeve.

1973/79 truck parts catalog: Transmission Gearshift Tube Bushing: 1978/79 = located on shift lever.

No pic of it for 1965/72; 1973; 1974/77. Only pic I could find showing it (as 7335) 1978/79:

I don't know if you'll find this part on the lever or not. I don't recall ever selling any or replacing it on my former 1965 F100 3 M/T w/Overdrive.

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 5 = 800-476-9653.

OBSOLETE RELIABLE PARTS in Nashville GA has 8 = 229-686-5101.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 212 = 800-543-4959.
