Hi guys - my power door locks have never worked since I owned the truck. Neither the driver side or passenger side works when I use either switch. It does lock manually using the key. The driver side is quite hard to lock and needs some pressure when locking with the key. The passenger side is ok manually. Also the power windows on both sides work perfectly.

I would like to fix this and get this working. First I want to test the switch on the driver side. I took a picture of it here. There are 5 wires - three black, one black-white, and one red. They seem to attach to the switch.

With a test light and the car off, I saw that if I pressed into the black-white wire connection at the switch, my test light came on. So I am assuming that there is power to the switch (and perhaps to the power windows also)? Now I need to see if there is power going to the actuator well inside the door to the bottom when the car is on. Do you know which wires they maybe? I assume the red is the earth. So it must be those other black wires?

I do see wrapped wires going into the actuator. Perhaps if I can disconnect the plug into the actuator, I could possibly test it there with the car on and pressing the switch at the same time. I don't want to unwrap the harness unless I absolutely must.

If there maybe an easy way, please let me know.

I also took a picture of the door actuator inside the door. Seems to be red wires and not black. Also looks to be original Ford actuator from 1990. Riveted into door I assume.

 

Since you already have the door panel off: Unplug the actuator and check for power with a test light when pushing the switch. The driver side actuator is probably bad and that is why the lock is binding up. If no power go back to the switch and check for power. If no power at the switch check the fuses. You could also start at the fuses and work you way back to the actuator. Which is what I would have done before I pulled the door panel.

After checking the switch I finally got the actuator out by drilling out the rivet, and unbolting the window rail etc for better visibility. The wire cannot be just pulled out as it clips in at the bottom. With disconnecting the actuator and spinning it around and manipulating the connector, did the wire pop off. Tested the wire there and the current is good. So I need to replace the actuator.

But if you look at the actuator, it is a spin threaded rod device. If I search for a 1990 Ford F150 actuator on Google, this is not exactly what I get. Any explanations? Also the part number F03B-5426594 yields very few results.

 

It came apart. That is why so much if it is showing. Are you searching door lock actuator? Came right up for me

 

Yes - but do you see that mine has a threaded end that goes into the actuator shaft? They seem similar but mine is different there atleast. Thanks.

 

You're 'reading' too much into it. The aftermarket replacement will work just fine or go the junkyard and pull a used OEM actuator.
