A/C Clutch always engaging...

odd question, but the a/c clutch has always engaged randomly even though the a/c is not on and even now when the heat is on. is this normal?

Don't think so, you could try the opposite of removing a shim and adding a shim to the clutch. If you are not familiar with this process, check out this video and instead of taking off a washer, add one that is the same size or one that will compensate for the lack of a shim.

You will probably have to go to Fastenal or maybe you can get lucky at HD or Lowes.

Alternatively, I think you can buy just the clutch plate and replace it. I am not sure if it comes with shims or not though.

if its on defrost the a/c will also be on. even if its on heat with a/c switch off. helps dry out the air.

It has been a while, like six months or so that someone had a story on that. The title of it was something like, "A/C, always on unless it's off", and the consensus seemed to be that it always came on unless the whole HVAC system is shut off.
