When I removed the FICM on my 2006 this morning I noticed that it does not have the FICM mounting grommets . According to my OASIS report the FICM was replaced a few years ago by the previous owner. So I was wondering if this was an oversight & forgotten during the repair.
I did a google picture search as well as some You Tube Videos and read a thread here on FTE. It seems that the grommets were no longer used on '04 and up models. Is this the case or should I order some new mounting grommets?
So I thought that my 06 was missing them so I got some from the dealer. With them on the bolts were not long enough to bolt down the ficm. They were bout a 1/4 inch too thick?? Not the final answer to your question, but it's what I ran into. I think the grommets are about $4 a piece from ford
On the later models the rubber is on the bottom of the ficm mount brackets (where they meet the engine) there is a slight dimple around the bolt holes on the front and the studs in the rear bracket to help keep things lined up. Early models have the grommets in the picture above.

Thanks for the clarification Rusty.......going out on a test drive with the new FICM now.......
The early style can be a real PITA, keeping all those things in place whilst putting the FICM back in. Would seem to be a walk in the park but I had one fall out one time on the back side and did not realize it until it was just about all bolted back together.
Yep, as was discussed already, the 03 and early 04 units had grommets on the FICM mounting ears themselves to provide dampening for the install onto a rigid bracket.
On the later build trucks, the isolation dampening still exists, but it is where the mount bolt attaches to the block. On these engines, you can move the mounting points in a small circle once the FICM is out to get comfortable that you have the newer style.
