ARP BOLTS

I am trying to find ARP bolts which seem to be the only bolts I can use to put Ramhorns exhausts on my '55 / 239 Y Block. I have found several web sites that sell kits for various engines but none that fit my truck. Should this be a hardware store item where I can buy 14 bolts I need.

By the way, the size I need is 3/8 by 1 1/2" x 16 threads per inch.

I cannot get a socket over the bolts. I have found some allen head bolts that I could use but the heads are so small I'm concerned they may not be a good idea.

John Mummert does not list an ARP bolt for his manifolds HOME Y
I would contact him to see what he recommends.

If you can't find what you need call them direct. I don't use ARP often but have ordered direct before.

I used ARP exclusively on my engine purchased from Summit. There are sets for common applications but if need be, you can buy bolts and such individually.

I would try to avoid basic hardware store bolts for exhaust manifolds. You want something that will take the heat cycling involved. The box stores offer some pretty low grade hardware that they sell for outrageous prices, especially for what it is. See if there's a real bolt store near you. There's a Tacoma Screw in Portland that could probably be helpful.
I know there's several places in my area that sell top quality hardware for much less than you'd think it would be, and they don't mind selling 25 cents worth of nuts at a time. I would think there would be at least that many in your neighborhood.

I think you will find what you need on page 87 of the ARP catalog posted. They have a reduced head fastener in bulk packages of five bolts. As 52 Merc says, I too would avoid hardware store fasteners for exhaust manifolds. They would be fine for temporary use but normally have a full sized head anyway.

What I usually do is go to the ARP website (the link that 1950FordF1 posted). Then find the bolts you want and copy the part number. Google that number and you will see them for sale at various vendors usually cheaper than the ARP site. This is what I came up with ....ARP 652-1500, ARP Bulk Standard Thread Chromemoly Bolts | ARP

Thank you gentlemen. I did buy grade 8 bolts at a local hardware store but will go with the Arp bolts as you all recommend.
