GEM Harness - desperate earch
The issue is: I need the part of the wiring harness that plugs into the center section of the GEM module.
How I got here: I spliced two trucks together.
Truck 1, the sheet metal & interior doner, was a Silver 1999 V10 F350 4x4 XLT. Immacculate shape but engine, trans & fuel system was vandalized & 190k miles.
Truck 2, The chassis & engine donar, was a Black 7.3 F350 4x4 XLT Rusty sheet metal but the classic 7.3 package generally in good running order w 140K miles.
After a few months of swapping everything inluding the dash harnesses, instruments and all new computers, ECM, ICM and GEM.
My son made a deal to sell all that was left even though we weren't quite done. We thought we had all the doner parts swapped. Huge mistake.
Turns out there is no center plug for the GEM in the harness now. It can't be much or I would have noticed it but it must have gotten separated from the dash harness in the process of disassembly.
Anyone have any insight on a source other than just calling every salvage yard in the country.

Honestly, no, I am not sure it is supposed to be there but I am getting a code that implies there is a GEM connection missing.
I thought I was pretty careful to take everything out of the diesel dash and transfer it over.
We did replace the GEM with the one ford said is correct. The original number was no longer available the new one was supposed to be the replacement.
I don't really have any clue what that middle plug does. I think it would be pretty hard to misplace that plug from the wiring harness unless you did a lot of trimming in the harness. Maybe someone else who knows more about the electrical side of these beasts can tell us if the middle plug is needed. Otherwise I would think you could call up Ford and see if they say you need it. I tried looking on fordparts.com but my computer is acting up so I couldn't get the parts diagrams pulled up.
If it turns out you do need it you could try car-part.com for used or talk to Ed at ficmrepair.com like I mentioned earlier.
Looks like you guys were having a fun time though. Is the new built truck up and running?

I wish they did better with their parts website, something like Deere has with theirs.Doing some digging on that code you found it appears to be talking about the lower connector on the GEM if you are looking at it in the pictures above, the connector with two rows of all straight pins, none of them are offset up or down. In the wiring diagrams this connection is referred to as GEM C241. I would check that again, maybe pull it apart and clean everything.
What are you using to pull codes? Thats the first time I have seen a code with only 3 numbers after the letter. GEM C241 is not even listed in the GEM DTC list.

On top of the other stuff I already mentioned, what all are you having issues with not working?
