DRL harness

I know it's short notice I my 97 I just bought has day time running lights. I don't want them. I was told there is a harness I need to plug in to do away with the DRL modual.

I am at the junk yard NOW and I don't see ANY harness w the same plug as the DRL modual. Suggestions?

You can disable the DRL by simply unplugging the module on the outside(front) side of the rad support.. drivers side I believe, but that will also disable the parking brake and high beam indicator lights on the dash, so you need to install a jumper in the connector to this. I remember seeing a thread about this with a wiring diagram but don't have a link.

P.S. Apparently there is a Ford bypass plug for trucks that didn't get DRL.. I guess the harness is there anyway on 50 state trucks since DRls were standard from 1990 on in Canada.

Yeah, i was on my phone. couldn't do a search.

From my understanding it also disables the high beam indicator

See my P.S. above, if you can find a truck in a scrapyard with the DRL wiring harness but no module there should be a plug in the end of it and that is all you need.

I HIGHLY doubt that is going to happen. I have no idea why this truck has DRL it is NOT a regulation we have in the states. I have never seen a DRL truck in person, so the chances of afinding another are slim to none

I do not see the DRL plug on any of my trucks at the house and didn't see any at the junk yard

DRL may not be regulated but it is a good safety feature because it allows other drivers to see you coming which can prevent collisions particularly around dusk and dawn, but I can understand wanting to disable it as well.

All I see it does, is make seeing the turn signal harder

I notice with some of the newer cars with fancy LED headlights that the headlight actually turns off when the turn signal is activated, but LED lamps are much more intense this isn't a big problem with these old trucks.

Ok. Had some time to toy with this tonight.

When you guys said jumper, I was thinking it was a harness of some sorts.

When in actuality, it is just really a cap for the DRL harness plug

Just unplug the DRL Module and plug this "cap" onto the harness

It has 4 pins inside to jump the necessary terminals

here is what it looks like

The harness plug. This plugs into the DRL module(bolted to the front of the radiator support under driver headlight and between grill and rad support) you can see it best laying under truck and looking straight up.

The "cap" or as it is commonly called a JUMPER

And inside it you can see the 4 pins

Funny I saw this on a few of my trucks and kept wondering what the heck it was because my 88 and 84 Bronco II doesn't have it. Now I guess I know what it is.

Sure glad I don't have the module on them since I don't like daytime running lights. Not even my 2010 has them.

So you're saying all trucks '90 and newer even if in the states should have it? My '92 was manufactured in Canada btw..
