Driving to Atlanta during the week and the message"Check Coolant Additive" I stopped at a nearby Ford Dealership and the parts guy sold me a quart of Motorcraft Speialty Orange Engine Revitalizer" ($14.00 ) I put this in and topped off with a little Dexcool. I have a 6.7 Lariat and I don't know how to cancel this Check coolant additive message that displays every time I start the truck. HELP!! Thank's Jim
Push and hold the OK button when the message comes up. If that doesn't do it, you can go to the settings screen and messages section and hold OK to clear it. I can't remember all the screens off the top of my head. If no one else chimes in and you are still stuck I will go out and take notes/pictures.
BTW, it doesn't mean you need to add coolant - it means to check to make sure the coolant in the truck is still good, as in it isn't contaminated. There is a test strip process to do this. Unless there is a mechanical problem with the truck I haven't heard of a first check ever being out of spec. BUT when you get back home, might not be a bad idea to go to a Ford dealer that knows diesels and have them to do the test. Many will do it for free.
Ohh and No such thing as a dumb question. Only thing dumb is NOT asking. We were all new at these at one point. I had to look up what it meant the first time I saw it, since I had a MY2011 in the early part of 2010. Back when most truck stops looked at you funny when you asked for Diesel Exhaust Fluid.
I agree on the first check never needing to add anything!
You need to search this 6.7L thread for "test strips" and you'll find where and what to buy. You actually need to check 2 different items, don't recall what their names are exactly, BUT I read the manual, 3 times!!
You can do more harm than good by just pouring in additive for no reason. I can't remember the name of the coolant, BUT it too needs to be the special stuff, I think it's orange too. I bought the quart of revitilizer and 2 gallons of coolant. I now have 75,000 miles on my truck and have only used a little bit of the coolant.
Bottom line is research so you KNOW, it's all in the manual, and don't have to listen to some guy at the Ford dealer that just wants to sell something and move on.
Specialty orange coolant or dex cool... I don't like putting anything with GM on it in the truck, so I stick with the Ford coolant.
Rotunda makes the kit. Its expensive for a one truck non-commercial owner/user. Depending on how the test strip comes out you pick a little vial and pt some coolant in it, mix, and read the color. Like a little chemistry set.
Do the 6.4L and the 6.7L engines both use the same coolant and test strips? I have some left over from my 09.
No they do not use the same coolant and you cannot mix the two. I would recommend disposing of the coolant from your 6.4 so no one accidently uses it in your 6.7.
When I got the message my dealer told me all the Diesels have the message pop up, just clear it and move on. Of course I didnt believe him and checked it myself when I got home, the level was ok so I cleared the message.

NO AND THE TEST STRIPS ARE DIFFERENT TOO.
I said in all caps, because even dealers today are still a little confused on this and they end up putting in revitalizer for the 6.4 in the 6.7. If another new motor comes out, I will once again read to make sure all the fluids and capacities are the same, because in the past they mostly were.
As Troy said, take all your 6.4 stuff and toss it, unless you still have a 6.4.
