So after doing some talking with the wife, and us discussing how little problems the 6.7 Powerstroke has had in it's 3+ years of existence, I wanted to find all technical videos on youtube out there. I found this one and like the other comments don't know why it's blowing the oil cap off. Any thoughts?

 

The tech reported the air filter was not installed correctly therefore allowing unfiltered air to enter the engine which is probably why the engine is using oil and has major blow by which is demonstrated by the oil fill cap popping off.

 

Wow, interesting. I just tried this and it doesn't happen on my truck. I did have a sort of similar problem on my first tow back in 2010. I didn't seat the dipstick fully and the pressure popped the dipstick out and blew oil all up under the hood and all over the engine. What a mess. My problem was solved by simply making sure I fully seat the dipstick in it's tube after check oil levels.

 

Yup. Needs new rings.

That, and there is probably an issue with the CCV filter.

 

I faintly remember something when I had my 7.3 about the ccv getting clogged and blowing oil out everywhere it could.Turbo,front seal,oil cap etc.But I think that had to do mostly with a mod guys did on the ccv vent and the hose freezing the fluids inside...

 

Fortunately with our trucks we have a very impressive cyclonic filter setup to extract the crank case oil prior to it being released into the intake that the 7.3 never had.
Although if the oil is cold, it won't filter it out as well.

 

Man, that's a bad case of dusting. I feel for the owner. But then that's why I either do the maintenance, or the dealership does the maintenance. JiffyLube and the like scare me.
