I was changing my oil today and noticed oil on the blue coupling hose going to the turbo. Also my friend has oil all over the back of the hood near the oil filter cap. Is there a reason for this or is the cap defective? Any help is appreciated.
A little oil residue on the CAC tubes is normal. As for the oil on the hood, that is most likely coming from the CAC tube that connects to the intake elbow.
I have oil on my hood over the filter canister. Saw this post and advised my dealer of the problem. They claim since I changed my own oil it was my problem. Not the CAC connection. They claim the connection and elbow were fine. I replaced the o ring and torqued the cap down. What do you suggest about getting them to at least check it.
My dealer tried to pull that same crap with my buddy. The first thing they asked was who changed his oil last and that if it was not Ford they would not cover the repair. They said the cap was leaking and put a new o-ring on it. Ford changed his oil last at another dealership so he was covered but I guess Ford is no different from any other company. It is always someone else's fault.
That service department bites, I'd go somewhere else. I had the same problem with oil on the hood so I took it into my svc department. They know that I change the oil myself and that the problem was not the filter cap (or oring or me being messy, that's a laugh). They put dye in and ran it for awhile and confirmed the CAC tube was the problem.
I'll be taking it in soon for a new coolant cap and I guarrantee they will not blame that on me either.
I have brought mine in 3 times for the same problem to two different dealers and they both tell me that who-ever changed the oil didn't put the cap on right. One dealer said they put dye in the oil and determined it was the cap. I don't think they used the dye they said they used since I checked the oil and it was the same oil I had in there, plus there was no oil change listed on the invoice. They didn't even bother to clean the oil off the hood. I know it wasn't required for them to clean the oil, but it would have been good customer service, especially after waiting 3 days for them to tell me it was the oil cap. The last oil change I made sure that I used a torque wrench and torqueed the cap to exactly their specs. Yes, there is still oil on the hood and around the cap.
My initial thought was the filter cap too. I don't have a socket large enough to torque the cap, but fellas on the site told me that it was about hand tight with a slight turn with an adjustable wrench. When I took it in to have them check the cap, they told me that it wasn't the cap, but they'd check it as well as the CAC. Turned out the cap was fine and the problem was indeed the CAC. I've cleaned it all up since CAC replacement, have changed the oil and still, nothing is leaking.
I have the oil under the hood and I just did the first oil change. Thanks, I will be bringing it to the dealer tomorrow and now I can sound like I know what i'm talking about. Just one question? What is the CAC and how do you know which hose it is?
Thanks for any help.

Just got back from the dealer and the service writer said that the oil spray on the underside of the hood is normal as per thier ford rep. I still pressed him as the spray is all over the turbo housing and I'm afraid of a fire. He wandered into the back and brought out a mechanic (at least I hope he was, he could have been the janitor for all I know) who confirmed the normal leakage story.
Since this is NORMAL, I asked, What would ford consider ABNORMAL? He said "If it did not leak at all". Funny guy, I thought. He did go on to state that he had not seen this problem with the older models since they had the metal CAC tube, only the newer plastic ones leak and have the spray. He also stated that the older models might have had the same problem but once the plastic tube was installed, the under hood pad was deleted. This might have soaked up any spray and therefore was un-noticed. He also stated that the blue rubber connectors did not seem to leak and the plastic tube does not use it so that might be the problem.
I asked the service writer to contact ford and see if switching to the metal tube with the blue connector might eliminate this leak. He assured me that he would and call me back. I'm not holding my breath!
Again, you guys were right. Thanks for the great board.
