EBPV/Exhaust Brake mod questions
My plans for mine is to use a SPST, normally off push-pull switch mounted to my shifter (truck is a 6-speed), with an "on" indicator LED mounted in the dash. I want the EBPV to retain the factory usage when the switch is off, and only come on when the switch is pulled. Obviously, I want the LED to come on then I pull the switch as well. I'm guessing this should be pretty easy to achieve, yes? The switch I'm eyeballing is rated 10a @ 12v. Will that be heavy enough? Am I going to need any diodes or resistors to block possible voltage spikes to the PCM? As for running any 12v power, I've added an accessory fuse block under the dash, so what size fuse should I use? Will I need an accessory relay for anything?
Other concerns are the truck is sitting at about 235k on the odometer. Am I running any serious risk of damaging anything using this mod? Is floating the exhaust valves (like I've seen some people on the forum say could happen) anything like a serious possibility?
I don't pull often, but when I do, it's heavy, and I'd like to keep from abusing my brakes going down some of the lovely Colorado grades. I'm also no virgin to auto electric, but I'm usually running all my own stuff from the ground up. I get a little nervous hacking into something like this. Any help you guys could offer would be phenomenal.
