I usually run on my front tank and use the rear a few time a year when I take longer trips. I filled my front tank today and went to put a few gallons in the rear tank today like I do occassionally (was reading empty) and found I could only get a couple of gallons in it. When I switched from front to rear tank it went well past full, I tried to switch it back to the front tank and the gauge never moved. A couple of miles down the road the fuel filter light came on and the truck started to sputter like it was running out and shut off. I had my wife bring me out a new filter and installed it filling the cannister with fuel before replacing the lid. The truck started after about 20 seconds of cranking and ran rough but I was able to get it well of the road before it shut off again. Thinking it might be the selector valve, is it located on the frame below the passenger seat? I'm going to have to get the truck out of there in the morning so hopefully somebody out there can give me some info on what to replace.
Fordpride, thanks for the info. Did that this morning at first light and the guage went to just past full, hit the key and it fired up and idled normally. I'll be looking for a new selector valve.

Probably don't need a new valve, just start alternating tanks. If the valve stays on one tank for long periods of time it causes them to stick. I always run one tank then the other, back and forth. Try that for a while, and if it still does it, then get a new valve.
Will do, can anyone explain how I ended up with a nearly full rear tank when I didn't put any in it since April. Is it possible the return line was dumping in the rear tank? Any way its kinda like hittin' the lottery with the price of fuel anymore.
Thanks again for the info, I've had the truck for 12 years now and still learning about little things on it. Best 9K I ever spent for a vehicle, a vacuum pump and alternator a water pump and a tap on a selector valve got me 120K of the 190K miles so far.
