Powerstroke oil change quandary!

I'm new to this site and dont know my way around it too well yet so I'll just ask here and maybe somebody can help!

Im doing an oil change on my truck and I realize the previous owner was using the wix cap/filter one-piece combo, and I want to return to the motorcraft filter. I have the oem cap and filter but the center column spring assembly seems to be too high in the oil filter housing for the cap to fit. I cant get my cap down enough for the thread to catch.

Is that center column spring removable or collapsable? I'm going crazy trying to figure this out.

Thanks alot.

Ty

What year truck? If it's a 6.0, use only Motorcraft filter and cap.

Yes,What Sam said...If you have a 6.0 that is...

You'll get better help down in the 6.0 forum.

its best to stick with Ford Motorcraft parts(oil filter/fuel filter) You can find Racor, they are the manufacturer of Fords filters on online filter sites.
FORD 3C3Z9N184CA
FORD 3C3Z9N184CB
FL-2016(Motorcraft)
PFL-2016(Racor)

That's strange, there should be no fitment issues with the OEM parts. I'm going to send this one down to the 6.0L Powerstroke forum, you will get the most knowledgeable advice down there. I would suggest taking some photos of your filter housing so we have something to look at.

Put the filter in the cap, flip it over and push down firmly on the cap and it will click into place. Then drop it in the housing. You will still have to compress the spring to get it started in the threads.

THIS. One of the white plastic ones that came on the bottom of some filters, it might be down inside the housing.

I don't know where it goes, I've never used anything but MC filters.
