Transmission Fluid

I have a 1981 Ford Ranger XLT F-150.I am putting the original AOD automatic transmission in it that someone had replaced with a C-4.It has the 302 engine.I need to know the correct transmission fluid to use.Is it Mercon?or Mercon V? I seem to be finding conflicting reports of which brand to use,but I understand that using the wrong fluid will cause trouble.PLEASE HELP.Thanks in Advance

Some will say if it has been rebuilt with clutches for mercon V use that. I would recommend a quality dex-merc. That is what we use in our turbo mustang with a c4
