My 1989 Ford Ranger is having ignition problems i replaced the starter starter sylenoid and ignition switch but i try to connect my positive battery terminal and evenwith my ignition disabled by me still wants to start could this be a faulty ecu or coil pack witch the coil pack is also new?
Sounds like you are trying to describe the starter motor wants to begin turning as soon as you hook up the battery?
Disconnect the small red/blue wire from the solenoid (should be on the S terminal) and then try to connect the battery; does the behavior continue?
Disconnecting that wire removes the ignition & neutral safety switches from the scenario, this leaves only the starter solenoid. Could be you have a faulty one right out of the box (happens pretty frequently with Chinese-made solenoids these days) so I'd then put your original solenoid back in place and verify that problem goes away.
you were right it was a bad one right out of the box except it was made in mexico thanks for the help we had a spare one off a chevy and hooked it up attached the battery and off it went lost a starter in the process tho
