Any guesses?

Got towed Saturday. We have had issues over last several months. Generally at highway speeds after driving 45 minutes or more it feels like the trans will slip to neutral for 1/2 second, then bang hard back into gear and drive fine. Shows 6th gear on dash. Dealer has re-flashed twice, but could not get it to repeat. And no codes thrown, Few issues on daily 20 minute drive to work other than rare hard shift.

Saturday we had been on road 50 min and bam, 20 min later bam again. Another 20 minutes -Severe - this has only happened once before. First no throttle response; driving at 65mph, push on throttle but truck slows. Let off throttle, gear drops to 5th up to 6th, throttle ok, then bad, ok, bad, drops to 4th 2500+rpm, jumping between 6-5-4. Little power, I'm working towards highway exit ramp.

No warnings of any kind on dash. At exit stop sign I hear tapping. Drive 1 block up to station. 3rd gear, poor throttle power. oops getting long, sorry!

Park at station, engine ticking or tapping kind of loud. I pop hood, sounds like coming from top of engine, air intake, turbo? Shut down. Decide to drive to Ford dealer 20 miles away, back roads to next town. Start up no tapping, drive perhaps 1 mile, power very poor. Then an engine light came on; (yellow engine outline, stayed on) So I shut down called tow truck, loss of power was alarming, did not want to get stuck in rural area.

I'll find out more and what code(s) soon. I kept complaining about transmission, maybe something different? The other time this severe loss of throttle, gear confusion happened, I got to exit & shut down. Upon re-start it ran perfect so drove home 2 hours with no issue. Drove for 3-4 weeks after with no issue.

There was some discussion a while ago about a chaffed wire over the EGR that produced some weird on and off behavior like this. I'm not in a place where I can search for it but perhaps someone else can?

Think this may be what Epic is talking about: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...1-10-10-a.html

Hi guys

I took here in Friday, After driving around with the tech for a hour. And getting it to do it one time. He checked the harness for the EGR. There was a TSB for wire rub. He reflashed it with a update and all weekend it hasn't done it again. I even towed the camper for a quick weekend trip. She seems to be fixed. I also use diesel keen with cetan boost in ever tank. Thanks for everyones input
Is this Epic's thought? Definately not a DEF issue on above post.

Yeah, there have been a couple of different wire chaffing issues. I was thinking of the one on the EGR. Obviously we're a long way from understanding the issue but I was just throwing that out there. The code will be good to know and check against the DTC list.
