Codes P1271,73,74,78 Runs Fine, Need advice

2000 F350 7.3L Reman Motor with 110K miles (Auto Trans)
I used it to pull a trailer daily and average around 22 to 28K GVW

Truck runs ok, but has lost some pulling power in the lower RPMS, it cruises at 70 mph like new, but when you put in in Reverse in wants to "bog" down, or if your start in 2nd, it does the same thing.

SES light now on all the time, except when I let off the throttle and it gets back pressure then it goes off. It will come right back on when I touch the pedal or get it to an idle.

Ran AE code and it gave P1316, so I ran buzz test and it shows P1271, P1273, P1274, P1278 (High to low side open) for corresponding injectors.

I pulled the connector from the IDM and OHMS tested the wiring, each injector tested 3.1 to 3.2. Checked IDM, looks like it has been replaced with a Reman, but no water inside or anything obvious.

I had previously pulled the valve covers and checked for the usual uvch wiring problems, but I didn't find any problems, I did notice that the injectors had two different colored solenoids (tan and dark brown) on them and I believe all of the ones with the codes are a certain color (although I'm not 100% on this, I would need to check again)

Also There were 4 solenoids loose on the top of the injectors, I re-torqued them, but again I forgot to record what injectors had the loose solenoids.

Before I go to replacing injectors, anyone have any advice or experience with anything similar to this or is there any other test I should run to narrow down the problem?

I would look at replacing the UVCH. I have seen several of them look good, but when you ohm out just the harness you get high resistance. The internal connector gets oil soaked and causes issues. If you are pulling the VC's anyway it is best to have them on hand.

Also look at the VC gasket for burnt pins. That could also throw that code.

So Steve what did you find. If you have a rebuilt IDM, maybe it is know good. Theres been alot on here that got bad IDM's. It depends on who rebuilds them. If all else fails send it to swamps, have it tested and rebuilt to there new 140 idm. That would be a plus, pricey but good idm. Please post back to what you found.

I have decided to pull one valve cover and replace the UVCH and VC Gasket.
Also while I'm there, I am going to swap solenoids on one of the injectors with another injector and see if that changes the codes.

Hopefully the UVCH or VC gasket (connector) will cure the problem.

I'll let you know what I find out.

Steve, while you are under the cover, torque the bolts.
Someone can point you to the thread with all the pics of what to torque, I couldn't find it.
Might as well do the 50 cent mod too.

VC gasket is reusable, unless of course it is damaged.

Hi,
The new vc gaskets contain the connector for the uvch, and the connector has been fixed on the new uvch so no 50 cent mod is needed.

Pulled the drivers side (2,4,6,8) valve cover.
Installed new VC gasket, UVCH.
Swapped solenoid from injector 4 with solenoid from injector 2.

I now have the codes P1271,1272,1273,1278.

Looks like in this case that the solenoid is what the problem is as the code has moved and followed the solenoid.
