truck overheats

most of the time it's not a problem, but any kind of steep, slow grade and it over heats even on a 40deg. day. only has a single row radiator.would a double row be the answer?

Talking truck overheats

Hi rlc and welcome to FTE!

You have a few things that could be happening.

1: A steep slow grade is going to reduce the amount of air going through your rad.

2: You probably don't have a fan shroud - which would help the fan pull the air through the radiator.

3: You truck is old enough that you may not have a efficient water pump and it is causing cavitation.

4: Your water pump belt may not be tight enough and is slipping.

5: A double core would help if the rest of the system is okay.
