2000 Expi, #3 blew, piece of dowel rod broke inside help
Well while doing my 2K Expedition 5.4 i was trying to get the TDC on #3 with a wooded dowel, and i didn't think about the angle the spark plug sits.
Long story short, it broke and there's half to one inch of dowel rod inside. It is about half the diameter of a pencil. I did see it once with a mirror and light and i have tried to grab several times with no luck.
Last time i looked i did not see it. I did finish all the plugs and the repair on #3 with timesert. I have to install the COPs wich are sitting at the post office since saturday and #3 spark plug after i figure out a way to get the wood out or something.
Starting it up would be my last choice. There are those small diameter flexible 'fingers' gizmo's, you know, push with your thumb and three or four little wire grabbers come out the other end to grab objects. They're found at Auto parts and hardware stores. I have one in my toolbox for hard to pick up things in close spaces. Edit: After alloro linked to Harbor Freight I looked for the pickup tool there, this is basically what I was referring to: 24" 2-in-1 Pickup Tool
I think, if you "fire it up", you will damage your engine.
At this point, if the solution with the vacuum thing doe'nt work, i would make the headers...
But i saw somewhere a tool, that ist like a USB-Cam, but about 3ft. long and about5mm in diameter.
It contains the cam, light and a "picking"-tool wirh three little "arms".
So you can see the part, you have light and can pull out this nasty little thing... But i can't remember where i saw it...
