navigation question

Just ordered my 2011 superduty this morning and cant wait till it arrives. I ordered it with factory navigation, does anyone know how you update the maps in the factory nav. With my tom tom I plug it in to the computer and update it every quarter. Does ford have a similar update plan.

I haven't updated mine yet but my understanding it is downloaded to a USB drive and is uploaded to the Nav through the truck's port.

One of the sales guys tried to tell me they are constantly updated through the Travel Link system. I told him I didn't believe him. Went to a different dealer. He told me you can order updated maps on DVD through Navteq. Him, I believe.

NAVTEQ Maps?

At $200 a pop he also said you can skip a year or two in between updates if you want as not much changes in one year.

I'm curious as to how you would load the dvd. Does it just download off of the dvd, or does the face somehow open to expose a map slot?

That sounds right. I knew it was not directly downloadable to the unit.

I heard with the '11s, it was now an SD card kinda like what you would use with a camera. There does not appear to be a lot of accurate & concise info on the map updates. I already contacted Navteq because Ford was useless and Navteq told me I was now on their email list to be notified when an update is made available. I think someone is just going to have to be the first, and then let everyone know the specifics.

For all of its often redundant detail, this is one area where the owner's manual and other documentation is sparse on actual details.

according to the navigation manual on page 125 it comes as a DVD. It is then downloaded to the hard drive in the navigation unit.
