What engine?

Hi guys, wonder if anyone can help identify what engine is in our 1977 F100 custom step side. The reg document says its a 351,but when I checked the firing order in the workshop manual it corresponds to a 302.Could it be a 351 with a different cam in it to give the 302 firing order? Can you tell a 351 from a 302 by looking at them? Thanks guys.

351 Windsor vs a 302? Yes. A 351W has a vertical casting rib near the distributor whereas the 302 does not.

If you've got a calibrated eye, a 351W also has a taller deck height.

Are you sure you have a 351W and not a 351M.

The 4.6 enigne is a very easy swap. It has been done many times or you can go all out and swap in a new Ford 6.2 engine that is what I am going with.Just need to find the wrecked truck cheap enough at an insurance auction. I have a friend who is putting a 6.4 diesel in his 79 F-500 4x4 custom 6 door project truck.

IT Prob is a 351m....easy to tell..look at the location of the thermostat housing...comes right off the top...also the valve covers are wider

351 m is a screwed up 400. 351w is a better engine. I know others won't agree , but that's the way I see it.
