Where can I find one? Ebay has them, but not for my truck. I have a 1986 F150 Inline Straight 6cyl, 4.9 engine, 4 speed manual transmission. I made a thread recently about my truck and my neighbor mechanic, was fixed for one day, then died again. Then I took it to an electric mechanic specialist, the said it was finished two days ago, drove it, truck died on the freeway, big hassle, longest 2 months of my life... Charged me $450 and it only worked for about 8hours before it died... I was driving it and I heard a (as best as I can describe it) the sound of a cheap instant fire cracker, then all power went out, luckily I had momentum so I was able to pull off to the side of the road.
sigh.... anyways, i just NEED to know where I can get a computer, please help, i am willing to just try this one more thing before selling, or calling it quits, i just cant spend more $$$.
I just took the truck back this morning, had it towed since it wouldn't even start, just cranks VERY weakly, even with two different batteries.
AHHHhh!!!!!!!
PLEASE HELP ME FIND A COMPATIBLE COMPUTER! sorry for sounding like a maniac, but i have gone past stress, patience and insanity!
I don't think a bad computer would affect cranking though...have you checked all your connections (battery to solenoid, solenoid to starter, grounds at battery, engine block, starter)?
I actually took TWO computers from the junkyard, however they belonged to vans, straight 6 cyl. So its not an exact match. The mechanics told me everything was checked but you know... mechanics. No local junkyard has my exact truck model and engine specs.
Something I just thought about, have you checked your fusible links? For all power to go out could either be a poor connection at the battery or solenoid, or a fusible link blown out.
I've read on here about DuraSpark II conversions, where you replace your newer carb, distributor and EEC-IV computer with the older, non-feedback carb, DSII distributor, and the DSII ignition module. With that setup, there's no computer anymore.
no I really don't know if they work or not. I have thought about the solenoid, maybe thats what popped. Its at the mechanics right now, so i can only sit here and wait...
