Tire size options

I've decided to use winter tires on my 2010 F150 XLT 4x4 (XTR model).

Currently has the Pirelli Scorpion ATR 275/55R-20 tires. I am thinking of going to seperate basic 17 " rims and going with 265/70-17" winter tire

Does anyone see any issue with this?

As long as the 17" wheel's inner diameter will clear the brake rotors and calipers outer diameter, then you should be fine. Provided you also maintain the proper backspacing.
Might want to also look at 18" wheels for peice of mind.

Thanks...dealer tells me the 17's come on some of the lower level F150's...I would presume the brakes are the same?

Should be. But it's not just about the brakes. You'll find that there are different tolerances between various aftermarket wheel companies (if you go that route). A 17" wheel off a F150 will work, but a 17" wheel from an aftermarket company could have a different inner diameter and could pose clearance problems.

Does that make sense? I'm not sure my brain is fully awake yet this morning.

You may want to get the PCM programmed for the smaller tire diameter (0.3"). It's a small difference (less than 1% change), but it can mess with the torque strategy control, odometer, and speedometer.

I have 17s on my XLT and they clear everything fine. They are stock Ford wheels.
Would .3 difference really make that big of change in shift strategy. That is a .015 height difference. I wonder if Ford really has different shift and torque programs for 17, 18,20 wheels? The OD on all three are very close.

There isn't different torque programs for different tire/wheel sizes.

The issue is your speed (based on revs/mile)and RPM are now out of whack compared to the stock set-up.

It's a small difference, but with all the sensors (ABS, TCS, RSC), IMHO it's prudent to spend the $50 or so and get it done.
