Trailer wiring 2006 F250

I'm looking into re-doing some of my factory trailer wiring, because the previous owner of the truck tapped into a bunch of the wires at the 7way to put in other plugs. I think this might be causing me a ground issue (and I never use the other plugs), so I want to replace the 7way, and the wiring. I know that the wire running to the trailer plug has a connector somewhere above the rear axle.

This is an aftermarket wire kit that I found for a '99 Superduty. Anyone know if it would work on my '06?

http://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-V...eid=1999201398

I want to replace the current setup with the setup from an '08+ truck that has the newer style plugs, like this -

Pollak 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket - Vehicle End Hopkins Wiring HM40975

Thanks,

- Steve

I'm pretty sure this is a diagram of the grey connector up underneath the spare tire. It appears to me to look much like the grey connector that comes with the pigtail for the '99 that you linked.

I've seen this question asked a number of times. I wish someone would buy the thing and answer the question for good.

I may end up doing it pretty soon. I'm looking at buying a new travel trailer, and want to make sure everything on the truck is top notch. My only concern would be the length of pigtail. etrailer.com doesn't differentiate between different bed lengths, so I'm guessing it will fit all configurations.

Well, I ordered the kit from etrailer.com. The wiring sure is short, so I hope that the plug is within reach. I can't imagine that they changed up the trailer wiring on these trucks between year models, but who knows. It's raining out today, so I don't have time to look at it, but I'll let you know how it works out.

Looks exaxtly like the one I bought from Ford for a whole lot more dollars, but the one from Ford includes the new style combination plug. I think you will be good to go. They make up for the bed length with the wiring up to the one you ordered, at least in my experience.

Good to hear. I actually bought the new style combo plug from Ford, so it might have evened out. I tried getting the wiring from Ford, but they no longer sold it in just the short section... you had to get about half the vehicle harness to get the part I wanted. If for some reason this one doesn't work, I 'll have to start looking at the junk yards.

FYI, this wiring kit does NOT work on a 2006 (mine anyway). There is no plug in the wiring for my trailer lights... I followed it as far forward on the frame that I could, and didn't see anything. I was hoping/expecting for the plug to be above the spare, but when I dropped it out, there is only a wrapped bundle of wires coming from the 7way plug up to the frame and forward.
