00 E350 replacing rear coolant tubes

Hi Forum, I have read extensively about rear coolant tube corrosion on this forum, and I know mine need to be replaced. I plan on going the heater hose route, and wire-tie it all to the underside. I'm also looking for the cable bundle protecting sleeve big enough for the heater hose to protect it.

Question: Is 5/8" heater hose big enough?

question: Where can you buy the protecting sleeve? I've beento advance auto, where they have the small size suitable for small cable assemblies, but I'll need something big enough to go over the heater hose.

Question: what have you all used as a coupler from the heater hose lines coming out from under the van in the rear? those lines on my van look good and I think I can use them, if I can get some sort of coupler between the existing rear lines coming out, and my new heater hose I'll be installing.

Many thanks for your thoughts!

Ben

Depending how you route your plumbing heater hose should be more than sufficient. I've installed an aftermarket auxillary heater in my '00 E250 cargo van but was careful to route and secure the hoses very carefully. Also, I insulated each hose along the entire length as well as using a heavier duty insulated automotive-type heater hose. FWIW most truck/auto heaters are BTU rated assuming a 150* F water temp from the block---insulating the hoses reduces the heat loss of the longer runs which would reduce the capacity of the rear heater.

I bought a full coil of 5/8" ID hose from Fleabay---delivered to my door less than $40! Insulation was Aramaflex which is common in the HVAC industry and very effective against heat transfer. With that hose and insulation my dinky (for now) 26K BTU rear heater works well for the rear bay also insulated.

If the budget allows get the best hose you can---that makes a difference in this use.
