They're blowing smoke where the sun don't shine because they're a specialty shop. Texas Truck Works will do right by you if you're in Houston and have a few hours to kill, just be sure to call ahead so they can get the gears in.
thanks for your help!!! yeah the place that quoted me the 2500 was houston drivetrain right off the east loop close to mccarty....you think it will be that cheap even with my truck having a larger rear diff?

IMO, the gears may be a little more expensive, but a diff is a diff so labor should be the same. I'll give them a call and see what they say...
Auto or manual? If manual, the granny gear will allow 3.73s or taller, if auto you'll want the 4.10s with the load you have and it will help with transmission life. Only go 3.73s with the auto if you spend a lot of time over 70mph.

Agreed....
After talking to Texas Truck Works, it seems that some 2008 F450s shipped with a Dana 80 axle, which is bascially the same as those found on Big Rigs. That's why specialty shop told you almost $3k to do it as it requires a little more than a standard Dana 50 or 60 axle.
Still good news though, the price they quoted for doing the job was considerably less than that specialty shop you mentioned. Texas450, check your inbox and we'll go from there.
look at the front of the reaer axle and see if there are boltsall the way around, I belive the rear will be a solid cover with no bolts, if you have bolts in the back its not a drop out.
