Hi, I have a Ford 302 fitted with world products big valve heads, Comp cam and a holley double pumper.
I built the engine 5 years ago, and has since covered 5000 miles
the problem is, the engine will run at 85 degrees all day long. but the minute I stop and then set off, the gauge goes up and up to 130 degrees plus.
As I am never far away from home I can make it back. I have changed the temperature gauge, the wiring, the sender, I have bled the system and changed the thermostat etc. etc No water in the oil and no oil in the water, everything is working fine.
Here in the UK it is difficult to get good advice, It has been suggested cracked block causing heat rise. I wait for your sound advice. regards Alan.
What's that equal to in Farenheit? Cracked block, water would have to show up somewhere. Do you have a fan clutch?
85/130c = 185/266f
So in steady running, it's ok. But if you stop, say at a traffic control, with the engine running, it goes up to 130c? And then it does not cool down once you take off again?
If you had a head gasket issue that only leaked combustion gasses into the coolant, you would be able to see that in the coolant. It would show up as fine, small bubbles, maybe a bit of gray color, sometimes a little rainbow sheen if raw fuel is getting in.
Head gasket issues like that quickly become two ways and coolant will show up in the cylinder after shutdown. Any one plug look different than the others?
As per previous post, what about the fan clutch? Fan shroud? Radiator size?
Hi, changed the stat, large Alloy rad, manual elec fan, i can drive 50 miles plus but if i shut down when i set off again the temp goes up and stays there, why does it only go up after shutting down? All help appreciated, regards Alan
"Maybe" I understand now. If you are using a mechanical gauge it reads even after shut down. Temp will rise due to heat soaking the water and no circulation. Normal condition.
Hi, i have put two new gauges on, when the car is moving you don''t need the fans running my problem is the car ran fine for three years now it runs hot, but only after stopping for a while, that's the the problem! the temp doesn't go back down.
