Hi, on a previous thread, Inlet manifold or head gasket, i thought i had solved the problem, water in the no 6 cylinder bore, i wanted to go for a drive last night, but the engine would not turn over, i tried the usual things battery etc, it was hydraulic locked cos the bore was full of water! turned the engine over cleared, put plug back, fired up went out for 70 miles, slight misfire at higher revs, no smoke, no oil in water, no overheating, some condensation in the rocker covers, compression 160psi in all cylinders, got home left it a few hours, took no 6 plug out, water in the bore again, is it a cracked block! i changed the head gasket and inlet manifold while fitting World Products Windsor Snr heads, there was no probs before, in the UK these blocks are not easy to find, i appreciate all the help you guys give, regards Alan.
Alan, I think I'd give it a cooling system pressure test to try and pinpoint the source of the leak but you already know it's in the #6 cylinder. The pressure test might give you some additional info but as I see it you have basically 3 possibilties here:
1. Cracked block
2. Cracked head
3. Leaking gasket
The 3rd possibilty of course being the most desirable outcome. If you can come up with a borescope you might be able to see inside the cylinder while the cooling system is pressuized and actually see the source of the leak. Failing that, do you know any proctologists that might lend you a proctoscope...?
Hi Dan, i have pressure tested the cooling system, it did lose some but not a lot, the guys that rebored the block and fitted a new liner, gave me some sealent i have driven for four hours, like it says you should do, and its seems to have stopped it, it is becoming a full time job looking after this bloody engine! i solve one problem and find two more, i will let it cool down and let you know, i have sent you a pic of the sealant, regards Alan.
