New flash update. How do you know?...

How do you know if your truck has the new flash update? Mine was built in late august and my dealer can't tell me. Is there a number to call or a way to check the VIN#.

Thanks for your time.

They say that if you set the gear display (press the + or - while in D)
and turn the truck off.. if it comes back on when you start up again, you have the update.. prior it turned off and u had to reselect the display.

You would think there should be some way of calling up the version number in your system status.

The gear select display is the fastest way to check.

With the ignition on, click the +/- on the gear shift to display the gears on the instrument panel.

Turn off the ignition.

Turn the ignition back on. If your gear display is still active, your truck has the current software. If the gear display is off, you need the flash.

Also, Ford can tell by the VIN and will mail you about the flash if your truck needs it. I got my letter a couple of weeks ago. I understand that Ford is mailing the letters based on when you bought the truck. The earlier you bought it, the sooner you'll get the letter.

From my experience, make sure the tech doesn't take a 'joy' ride after flashing your truck; when I had mine done, the tech used nearly 2 gallons of fuel 'testing' the truck!

Well worth having done, shifting is better, cruise control is better, and they say more hp and torq. Personally, my butt cannot feel the added hp/torq, but she's a beast!

I checked this out last night and the gear display didn't show back up instantly but as soon as I put it in drive the gear display came back on and stayed on. Is this correct for the flash installed or should it show instantly before putting in drive?

The trans needs to be in D to see the gear display. Yours is correct.
