Hi, i currently have a 1977 f100 4wd with a 4speed manual box, the gear box is on its way out and i am thinking about converting it to an auto. does anyone know what auto box will bolt straight to a NP205 and what would be the pros and cons about the convertion.
A c6 from mid 70s to at least 79 and I would guess up till 86 or so.You will need the auto flex plate, transmission, adapter from trans. to transfer case.Alongwith all the kick down linkages and what ever shifter you use.
i have recently found out i have only got a 302 cleveland and not a 351c in my f100 and i am still using my 4speed manual with what i think is a np205 transfer case.
Im keen as to convert it to an auto, but now that im only running a 302c is it worth running a c6 or should i go a c4 or is there any other options i could go over here in australia.
No such thing as a 302c or any other denotation. Its just a 302. 300 I-6/302/351w will all use the same tranny. all the ford tcase up to 96 used the same bolt pattern on the tcase side of the adapter. Youll just need the adapter that will bolt to whatever auto you get.

i was using 302c as a reference for 302 cleveland, because we have 302/351 cleveland and 302/351 windors in aust.
so the stud pattern on my np205 will be the same as a c6 or a c4 auto box? i understand ill need a new bell housing to match the cleveland engine if the box hasnt already come from a cleveland.
also my first question was "what would be the best option for a 4wd with 302 cleveland to match upto my np205."
Ok the part about you being in australia clears things up. The 205s are all the same bolt pattern. You just need the correct adapter that will bolt up to whatever trans you choose. Im not sure what options you have with the autos over there. But here a c6 is all one case, you cant detach the bellhousing. The c6 was a nice tranny behind the big block stuff so i see no problem with it handling your smallblock.
Post up a pic of your truck. always nice to see the cool parts you guys have that we cant get over here.
