Will a 205 t case from a auto (c6) trans fit on to a np 435? I want to replace my dana 21 with the 205. If not what mods would I have to make? Thanks for the help.
All the married cases are the same 6 bolts on the back, as long as the NP235 had a 205 on it, it should work. The 205 adapter has a notch in it for the linkage that is closer than others. I dont remember where the Dana 21's linkage is, but I think you can grind the adapter so it will fit.
yep, It was not a common option. not very usfull being only 2wd or 4wd no low range...
I cant remember what the difference is,but there is a difference in the tranny to t case splines. For some reason I don't think you can just swap a 21 for a 205 but cant remember why.
the manuals and autos use the same splines the issues you'll have are one the diveline lenghths and the linkage.. the other issue may be t-case frame support mount....the dana 21 was used on 4spd trucks becuase the trans has a low range... it woun't hold up to much the 205 is a better upgrade by alot....
My '76 came with a dana 21. At first I was let down a little but now I kinda like it, small, fairly light, cast iron gear driven. At some point I may swap it out for a 205 if it ever craps out.
talk to my ford garu who has been working on these things since before i was born the d21 does indeed use a different adapter and spline. the 205 and 203 however do use the same.
The np435 that is in front of the dana 21 in the 2 wheel drive version. you can ether change out the tail shaft and find the proper adapter or find a 4wheel drive version of your tranny. and the adapter to make the 205 work will need to be machined. The dana 20 is a bolt in swap..and is every bit as tough and has good after market support.
I was reading on the off road sites that I would need a 4 wheel drive tranny. I went and bought the 205 anyways just to have it. I think I made out pretty good got a nice windshield and the 205 for 50 bucks.
Sure sounds like a deal to me. In your search. also look for a T-18 transmission. Ford used plenty of those in front of 205's. Unless you absolutley have to have an np435. The T-18 is not as durable and the first gear is not as low but its basicly the same tranny. Identifying mark is the top plate is cast iron where the np435's is aluminum.
Will the T18 bolt up behind the 360? I been thinking about something different, I havent really drove the truck much since I bought it. I have been doing a resto on it for about 2 years. I want to build it as bulletproof as I can.
