I have a 1970 F100 and am looking at putting a tach in it. Was one ever offered in dash? I'd rather go that route if possible. I'll buy an old Sun tach if not.
The first Factory tach offered in a F-series Pickup was 1980 year model.
However...
They put factory tachs in F-series Trucks, F-600 Up, as far back as 1967.
What some people have done was get the instrument cluster and tach out of a 1968-1979 medium duty F-series truck, and retrofit it into their 1968-1972. Yes that's right, 1968-1979, because the dash in the medium duty trucks did not change in 1973 like the pickups did.
Be aware this would be a wiring issue, and the factory tach was mechanical with a speedometer type cable attached. But people have successfully done this. Try doing a search on the form.
Another thing people have done, is use just the bezel from the 1968-1979 medium duty trucks, and put their own gauges into it. I've seen some real nice jobs, including chrome dipping the bezels etc...
Here is a picture of a 1974 F-600 with tach. (Sorry the steering wheel obscures the tach.)
Hmm..interesting. I was expecting to keep the sweep speedo dash, hoping for a tach off in a corner or something. I generally like the round gauge look, but hadn't expected it in this truck. I'll chew on it for a while before I decide what I want to do. Thanks for the photo.
