No fuel in upper filter???

The only two things I can figure are the pump has failed, or something internal to the HFCM. Or there is something completely blocking the pickup tube in the fuel tank. It just seems odd that it started right at the same time you changed filters.
You may want to wait and see if anyone else has any suggestions before you go about changing parts out, however.
You could try what gearloose just suggested above also. You'll need a fuel line disconnect tool, and probably an assistant. Be very careful, the pump could pump out a large amount of fuel very quickly.

Be very careful ---- after you disconnect the fuel line, if the determination is that it is blocked between the fuel pump and the small filter at the engine...
I would disconnect at engine, and try using compress air UP TO 70 psi from the engine end (reverse pressure) to try to blow it out.
If that failed --- you are into replacing the line.
BTW --- check for an obvious block like a kink / damage in the line.
If there is no fuel coming out of pump --- then it is fuel pump, fuel pickup..
Remove the HFCM... blow low pressure (5psi) air into the fuel line and see if you can hear the air bubble through the fuel tank.
Straightforward diagnostics.. not rocket science.
Good luck.

If you havn't done it the 1st thing I would check is the lower filter O ring. Check for damage and then lube it with oil or vaseline which is what I use. Diesel fuel can swell the O ring and cause it to bind. You could be sucking air from the hfcm. The cap should bottom out before reaching the torque value. If not that is where your problem is. Remember, the O ring seals, not the threads.
