Auto Zone Code Reader

A friend told me auto zone will use a code reader on your car for free.Does the one they use work on an early 99 F350.I did the valve cover gaskets, glow plugs, wiring harnesses. Both sides read 2.8 for the injectors and .5 for the glow plugs on the OHM meter.I changed the accelerator position sensor(not the whole pedal assembly). My fuel filter was done4 months ago has about 6000 miles on it.I have 197,000 on the truck. The rdp6637 kit,no other mods.I have a hesitation at idle and when stopped but in gear.Dont know what to do next.

I don't think the auto zone readers will read our codes.

No, it wont work.

Yes, our trucks doe have an OBDII port on them, and Yes, some of the secondary codes(abs, airbag, tail light out,etc...) can be read with an off the shelf reader, BUT, Our engine is not OBDII compliant. medium duty diesels never had to be. You will need and advanced scanning tool to get engine specific codes, and none of the big box auto parts stores have them.

Check your Exhaust back pressure sensor tube (front of pax manifold to front of engine) disconnect tube and clean out with a weedeater line, and some carb cleaner also clean out the sensor.

ends up it was IPR,I also ended up getting a new EBPS and tube, the tube was almost packed solid, the ICP sensor had oil in it so that got changed, picked up a multimeter and found out the GP's were fried so they and the harnesses and valve cover gaskets got changed,I am the proud new owner of AutoEnginuity with the total Ford bundle. Not too familiar with it yet,but anyone in my area needing a scan done or anything else it can do,just let me know.Put in a black cps from Riffraff.Sitting on the shelf waiting are Riffraff's FRX and HPX.But 10-16-10=bow season in NY and thanks everyone here I will participating on opening day,frx and hpx,and mod addiction have to wait I am looking for a buck that will score(needle in a haystack here)but i like the chase more than the finish, thanks to all
