Well, my TC is shuttering, fluid is burnt and black and I don't want to be stranded. I got 1 quote for just under 6000 dollars to have a suncoast transmission shipped and installed. I looked at ATS and they can do it for 4. I have heard of BTS and another on the site that everyone seems to like. I am not towing real heavy, but i drive the truck a ton, and four wheel up very steep grades frequently and push over mountain passes hard. right now i have a loose goal of putting 1,000,000 miles on this truck.
So Suncoast vs. BTS and (Jody's transmissions?)
I have hear ATS isn't too reliable.
If I am going to do it, I will probably chip it at the same time and get everything tuned together. DP probably.
You can drive to BTS in Lead Hill AR Brians Truck Shop & have one installed for about $5000 I'll be making that trip Monday morning.. From what I've been told, it will be the last transmission I will ever buy He will rebuild your transmission & have you out the door the same day. I'll let you know how I like it next wednesday
Both of those options are 14 + hours and at my current fuel consumption... 2 or 300 bucks. So I guess that would save me 500 bucks, Although with it not being local that changes that value some, along with having to take off work either on a Friday or Monday, plus the risk of getting it out there with questionable life left. I have no problem drive 30 to 40 hours in a weekend though and road trips are always good.
No personal experience, but for me, unless it's gold plated, I wouldn't have ANY replacement transmission in any of my rigs unless it was from John Wood. And if JW wasn't available, my second and only other choice would be Brian at BTS.
And as for that gold plated trans, if it ever materializes, I'd only own it long enough to sell it, then I'd buy a JW built trans!

You will like a BTS.
Two year warrenty on all adjustments
Life time on the tranny.
When Brian tore into my original, he said that the gear that was fried the worse was my Over Drive....
I told him that I like to drive 80MPH pulling a 30 foot camper for hundreds of miles.... He said..yep that will over time burn it up.
I asked if that would void the warrenty?
He said, no... he expects people to run them hard and he builds them tough.
He said that if I Drag raced or pulled 'skids' for sport. He expected to see me about once a year... If I hauled loads and campers, 'maybe in 5 to 10 years. Leasure driving...never...
This will be your last transmission you will ever have to buy. If you drive to Lead Hill, he will overhaul yours and tune it to your liking."Tunes or Chips" will not void the warrenty. He will ask for the spects you want and build it to that (shifting points,Hard/soft shifts, ect.) and after you test drive it, he will adjust on it until you are happy with it.
A good thread to read is the one by "FranKo72". You do not want this to happen to you. I do believe that John Woods trans are great, but I have only dealt with BTS and will never have to worry about the thousands of dollars for a 'new' tranny again.
John Wood... I don't have his trans, but he's been helping me get mine straight. He knows his stuff and for being over the phone and on the OPPOSITE coast, he's incredible. Nothing against BTS, but I've called them twice, they took a message for me to give to Brian, and they NEVER called me back! As far as an ATS goes, John Wood says he's always rebuilding ATS transmissions... more now than ever. Makes you wonder! He builds his trans for $3800, or you can buy the parts kit for $2500 and give the trans and kit to a reputable shop in your area. He said he's had his trans in his 500HP truck for seven years now... NOT BAD!!! I've got his valve body on the way to see if it fixes my problem per his suggestion... I'll update you as to whether it fixed it or not.
