Need to remove the upper intake manifold (plenum) from my 1992 F150 5.0. One of the center bolts on the passenger side is a torx head. It appears to be about a T40 but not sure. All I have are 3/8" sockets which are to fat to fit into the manifold housing. I called the parts store, only one here, and they only have the same as me. An 8" torx srewdriver may reach but doubtful if it would hold up to the torque required. What do you use for this? Do I need to find a 3/8" drive socket with a slimmer profile or is this one of those tools nobody has. Wouldn't you know it, one bolt holding the whole job up .
Been there, it sux! I went and bought a cheap torx set, the long ones from the $5 and $9 bins at like ACE and other places. I then bought a 6", 1/4 extension and used my 1/4 to 3/8 socket adapter and it took some wrangling to get it out! I had to grind the end every so often cause it twisting it.
Thanks for the advice. I ended up at one of my neighbors houses bumming tools lol. We made up an extension with a few 1/4" extensions a 6mm socket and a drill bit torx bit. It looked funky but it worked! When you live in the middle of nowhere you do what ya gotta do.
I ran out of light tonight. I dropped my oil pan but it looks like I am going to have to REMOVE the exhaust! The cross pipe blocks the pan from dropping down in the rear. Funny the manual says it's not necessary, any tricks or am I missing the obvious (which wouldn't be the first time).
