Hey guys. Finally got some rain here this week, and the temps dropped a touch. I turned on the windshield defroster to remove the fog and heard a groaning/creaking noise.
I have manual controls. It was in the off position, I first adjusted the temp from cold, to a cold/heat mix (mostly cold though), then turned the fan dial to the defrost/feet setting. This is when I heard the groan/creak. It does the same thing when I turn the control back to off.
It wouldn't be the blend door as that wouldn't open and close with the on/off of the system, right?
I'm guessing that it's the "doors" that open and close the HVAC system. I didn't find a thread already, unless I searched the wrong keywords. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be at all concerned?
BTW, the a/c and heat work as they should. Just have the noise for about 1.5-2 seconds when turning on and off.
Mine does this too. I believe that it is the blend door. Mine does this from the on-off or the off-on positions accordingly. Apparently the cause is some of the foam gets stuck between the door and the wall of the chamber.

I believe this is a very common problem. My 07 is very noisy. When the blend door fails, I'm buying a new truck. Stupid as it sounds, that's one repair that I'm not screwing with.
If you look on the heater casing next to the gas pedal, you will see a black actuator for the blend door w/ a white molded piece under it. there is a tsb stating to remove the blend door actuator and the mount under it. remove the white thing connecting both blend door rods and lube it up. The groan/creek is caused from lack of lube....

Correct. Mine does it as well too. Here is the TSB:
Just wondering if anybody has attempted this fix. My truck has this problem as well and I have been thinking about fixing it myself. My only concern is, when I remove the outside casing are there any small parts that could fall out or does everything stay in place. I don't want to have to figure out where all these little pieces belong. Is there a aftermarket lube equal to the motorcraft lube reccommeded in the TBS?
