catyletic converters

I had a coil on the front bank go on my 01 V6 Escape and it was that way for about 6 months , every time it was wet out I got a check engine light and it ran crappy for awhile then cleared up. I am now noticeing that I do not have the towing power I used to have, every thing seems to be working good and I was told that the coil being bad for that long probably flooded raw fuel into the cat and now it has clogged up causeing the engine to run low on power especially while towing. Does this sound like the cat is shot.

Did you replace the suspect coil?
Is there a check engine light?

no one has had a catyletic converter problem. I heard that they were common.
